TNA Slammiversary 2014
The 2014 edition of TNA Slammiversary, which comes to us live from Dallas, Texas, is now officially underway. The show opens with a live shot backstage of Kenny King complaining to MVP. Bobby Lashley is also standing there. King walks off promising to become TNA Champion tonight. From there, we shoot to the TNA Slammiversary PPV video intro.
After the video package, Mike Tenay welcomes us to the 12th anniversary show for TNA, here in Arlington, Texas. Slammiversary begins with the X-Division Championship six-way ladder match.
X-Division Championship (Six-Way Ladder Match) - Sanada (c) vs. Manik vs. Crazzy Steve vs. Tigre Uno vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Davey Richards
The Wolves -- Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards -- make their way to the ring first. Out next is Tigre Uno. Crazzy Steve of The Menagerie is out next. Manik follows him in the order, and finally, the TNA X-Division Champion Seiya Sanada makes his way to the ring. It's time for a six-man ladder match for the X-Division Championship!
The action is immediate as Manik jumps on Sanada as he was coming to the ring. The Wolves hit a double-dive onto the floor and Uno hits a crazy spinning-splash onto all of the guys on the floor.
The ladder finally enters the ring for the first time as Sanada and Manik battle back-and-forth, all-the-while the rest of the guys are on the floor battling or selling.
All of the guys end up in the ring with the fans getting behind Steve with a repeated "Crazy Stevve" chant. Stevve does a helicopter spin with the ladder, knocking all of the guys on their butts.
Sanada hits a moonsault onto Stevve, who was laying across a ladder on the mat. Sanada goes to climb the ladder for the belt as a "this is awesome" chant breaks out, however, Uno stops Sanada. The two battle, with some high-flying spots taking place.
Things work out to where The Wolves are left alone in the ring. They both notice the title hanging from the rafters and the ladder set up underneath it. They both run to it at the same time. They both climb at the same time. They both look at each other, shrug their shoulders, and start exchanging punches at the top of the ladder. Sanada ends up breaking things up. Manik gets involved as well. Sanada ends up climbing the ladder after a big stacked-powerbomb spot. He grabs the title and retains.
Winner and STILL X-Division Champion: Sanada
MVP Clears Up Tonight's Main Event Situation
MVP's theme music hits and he comes out on crutches with Bobby Lashley and Kenny King. MVP says he's supposed to be in the hospital right now and people are boo'ing him. He trashes the people for boo'ing him. MVP reveals that Bobby Lashley will face Samoa Joe, Kenny King will face Austin Aries and the winners of those two matches will go on to the main event to compete for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Eric Young. MVP promises not to get involved in either Lashley or King's matches tonight.
Bobby Lashley vs. Samoa Joe
After the promo, Lashley makes his way to the ring as MVP and King make their way to the back. His one-on-one match with Samoa Joe, which has World Title implications, is up now. Out next, to a great reception from the Texas fans, is Samoa Joe.
The bell rings and here we go. Lashley gets an early jump on Joe. Lashley takes it to Joe in the corner as the fans boo, but Joe ends up catching Lashley running in with a big boot to the face. From there, Joe starts to take over the offensive flow of the match.
Joe continues his assault as the fans start up the chants. "Joe's Gonna Kill You" and "Joe! Joe! Joe!" chants break out as Joe works over Lashley with rapid-fire punches in the corner.
Lashley rolls out to the floor to recover a bit, but Joe ends up hitting a dive through the ropes, splashing onto Lashley on the floor in the process. Lashley ends up working over Joe on the floor a bit before the action returns to the ring,, with Lashley now in control.
"Let's Go Joe!" chants break out, but Lashley is too much for the Samoan star, as he is continuing to dominate Joe with ease. This continues for a couple more minutes until Joe hits a big spinning kick to the head of Lashley that changed things up.
Joe goes for the Rear Naked Choke but Lashley backs them into the corner to break the hold. Joe goes to hoist Lashley up for the Muscle Buster in the corner, but Lashley fought that off as well. Joe ends up turning around into a spear from Lashley seconds later for the 1-2-3.
Winner and ADVANCING to the TNA Championship match: Bobby Lashley
Jeremy Borash Interviews Dixie Carter & Rockstar Spud
Backstage, Jeremy Borash is with Dixie Carter and Rockstar Spud. They're actually in a luxary box or something in the building. Dixie basically hypes up Ethan Carter III against Bully Ray tonight and some meetings she's had recently. She also sends a warning to MVP. She and Spud walk off as we head back to the ring.
Magnus (with Bram) vs. Willow (with Abyss)
Magnus comes out first, followed by Willow. Abyss comes out to be in Willow's corner for this one. I believe Bram is in Magnus' corner. This one-on-one match between Magnus and Willow is up next here at TNA Slammiversary 2014.
The bell rings and here we go. Bram distracts Willow early on, allowing Magnus to gain the early offensive advantage in the match. The fight spills out to the floor, where Magnus pounds on Willow some more. Back in the ring, Magnus remains in control of this singles contest.
A light "Willow, Willow" chant spreads around the building as Willow tries to make a comeback. Magnus ends up killing everyone's hope with a throw-away style powerbomb. Magnus continues to beat down his opponent as the fans continue to try and chant their way into helping Willow back into the match.
Willow starts making his comeback finally, and hits all of the typical Jeff Hardy-style fire-up spots and moves. The fans are totally behind Willow as he continues to take over the offensive flow of this match.
Bram gets involved, leading to Abyss coming over to beat him down on the floor. Magnus jumps on Abyss' back and now he and Bram are beating down "The Monster." Willow ends up diving backwards, back-first onto Magnus and Bram on the floor. That was pretty cool.
Back in the ring, Bram and Abyss are going at it.. Abyss is getting the better of things now, htting several clotheslines and a big splash before throwing him out of the ring. Willow and Magnus roll back in the ring. Willow hits the Twist Of Fate, but Magnus kicks out at two-and-a-half.
On the floor, Bram has the steel from the turnbuckle cover. As he nears Abyss, "The Monster" grabs "Janice" from under the ring and Bram backs off. Abyss chases him to the back as the action continues in the ring. The distraction allows Magnus to hit his finisher on Willow for the 1-2-3.
Kurt Angle's TNA Hall Of Fame Announcement: Team 3D
In the ring, Jeremy Borash welcomes the 2013 TNA Hall Of Fame inductee Kurt Angle. Angle makes his way to the ring, as he will be making the announcement for this year's TNA Hall Of Fame inductee.
The fans in Texas break out in "Angle! Angle!" chants, followed by "U.S.A.! U.S.A.!" as Angle's music fades off. Angle talks about what an honor it is to be inducted into the TNA Hall Of Fame. The fans break out in "thank you, Kurt!" chants. Angle says he's not retired yet.
Angle moves on to talk about our 2014 TNA Hall Of Fame inductee, who will be inducted at Bound For Glory, is none other than Team 3D -- Bully Ray and Devon.
The Team 3D theme music hits as Bully Ray and Devon make their way to the ring. The crowd goes nuts with various table-related chants after their music dies down. Really loud response from the Dallas-area fans towards Team 3D. Prolonged chanting and cheering. Cool moment.
Bully Ray says that was the best "we want tables chant" they've heard in forever. The fans respond with very loud "3-D, 3-D" chants. Ray says how great it is to stand in the ring with Devon again. The two shake hands and hug. The fans cheer "welcome back."
Ray thanks the fans some more and then hands the mic off to Devon. Devon talks about how he thought he was threw, and the fans break out in a loud "you still got it" chant. Devon talks about Team 3D going out in a blaze of glory. He closes with his "oh my brotha, testify" line. Their music plays again and that does it.
Jeremy Borash Interviews Ethan Carter III
Backstage, Jeremy Borash is with Ethan Carter III. EC3 mocks the TNA Hall Of Fame announcement that just happened. He says he beat Sting and Kurt Angle, the only other TNA Hall Of Famers, and tonight he promises to beat one of the third members -- Bully Ray.
Kenny King vs. Austin Aries
Next up, Kenny King makes his way to the ring. His match with Austin Aries, which will determine the third man in the ring for tonight's TNA World Championship cage match, which already includes Eric Young and Bobby Lashley, is up now. Out next is his opponent, Aries.
The bell rings, the "Aries" chants break out and here we go. The winner of this one will get a shot at the TNA title later tonight against Young and Lashley. Aries gets control early on, but King quickly takes a moment outside the ring to recover. Aries ends up flying out to the floor, crashing into King in the process.
King ends up taking over control of the match, including a spinning-suicide dive onto Aries on the floor. Back in the ring, Aries starts to slowly regain the upper-hand in this one. Aries is controlling King now, as he goes for the Brainbuster, but King avoids it.
The two battle back-and-forth for a little bit longer, ultimately building towards a big spot on the top-rope in the corner. King got Aries acorss his shoulders while seated on the top-rope, but Aries escaped and hit his Brainbuster superplex off the top-rope for the 1-2-3. With the win, Aries advances to tonight's main event title match.
Winner and ADVANCING to the TNA Championship match: Austin Aries
The Von Erich's vs. Jessie Godderz & Zema Ion
Jeremy Borash introduces Kevin Von Erich and The Von Erich's tag-team, the first third-generation performers of the family, who are Kevin's sons, Ross and Marshall. Ross and Marshall remain in the ring, as Jessie Godderz and Zema Ion make their way to the ring, cutting an annoying promo along the way.
The bell rings and Godderz and Ion attack The Von Erich's from behind. Marshall Von Erich starts things off getting beat down by Godderz and Ion, with Ion ultimately settling in as the legal man. He beats on him for a while until Marshall finally makes the tag to his brother Ross.
Ross gets beat down for a while until he finally makes the hot-tag to Marshall. Marshall does a very good little comeback series of moves, but the heel duo end up double-teaming him to slow him down. Ross makes the save and now all four guys are going at it.
Marshall hits a standing moonsault on Jessie, but Ion hits him with a chair to get disqualified. Kevin Von Erich ends up hitting the ring to make the save. When he applied the Claw, which was his father Fritz Von Erich's trademark finisher, the fans in Texas legitimately exploded. A loud eruption of cheers and "you still got it" chants filled the building as the Von Erich trio celebrated.
Winners via DQ: The Von Erich's
Jeremy Borash Interviews The Beautiful People
Backstage, Jeremy Borash is with the current TNA Knockouts Champion Angelina Love, as well as Velvet Sky. She talks about Gail Kim not having the Knockout Championship accomplishments that she has. Borash says Love's accomplishments depend on Velvet's help. Sky rants about the two being a package-deal. Love warns Gail that two is stronger than one.
TNA Knockouts Championship - Angelina Love (c) (with Velvet Sky) vs. Gail Kim
Out first, by herself, is the challenger -- Gail Kim. Next out, accompanied by her Beautiful People runningmate Velvet Sky, is the current TNA Knockouts Champion Angelina Love. Our second TNA title match of the evening is up now.
The bell rings and here we go. Gail Kim takes the early offensive lead in this one, taking it to the Knockouts Champion early on. Kim works over Love a little bit more, but Love is now slowly taking control.
Kim gets distracted with Sky on the outside of the ring, allowing Love to attack her from behind. Kim ends up slamming Love into the steel steps outside the ring and then throws her back into the ring.
Back in the ring, Love is back in control of the action. The referee misses it as Sky helps Love with Kim, setting up what appeared to be the finish, however Kim managed to kick out. Earl Hebner comes out and ejects Sky from ringside. He tags the referee, and I guess that means he just tagged himself into the match as the new referee.
Kim hits a leaping clothesline on Love, followed by a huge neckbreaker. Kim accidentally hits Hebner with a dropkick. She hits Love with her Eat Defeat finisher, but the other referee -- Stiffler -- won't make the count for her. Seconds later, Kim tries a rollup, but Stiffler won't count that either. Love reverses and now she has Kim rolled up, and of course Stiffler runs in and makes that count.
Winner and STILL TNA Knockouts Champion: Angelina Love
Backstage With Team 3D, Bully Ray Interview
Backstage, we see Bully Ray and Devon talking. They talk early about their history as Team 3D, and then Ray talks about what he's going to do to EC3 tonight. They talk about Father's Day and then Devon leaves. An interviewer walks up and asks Ray about EC3. Ray says "over my dead body" repeatedly. He says those were EC3's words. He said everything that happens tonight is EC3's fault. Ray talks about the Texas Deathmatch tonight and what he's going to do to EC3 tonight.
Texas Death Match - Ethan Carter III vs. Bully Ray
EC3 makes his way to the ring first. He's putting his unbeaten singles streak on the line tonight in Dallas in a Texas Death Match against the man making his way to the ring right now, EC3's opponent for tonight -- Bully Ray.
Ray comes out swinging a Texas bullrope with a horn, ala Stan Hansen. Mike Tenay and Taz go over the rules of a Texas Death Match as the bell rings to make this one official. Basically put, whoeever can't answer a ten count from the referee loses.
Ray attacks EC3 with the bull-rope and bell early. Within a minute or two, there are tables, ladders, bull ropes, chairs, bells, etc. in the ring. The fans chant "we want more cow bell" as Ray attacks EC3. EC3 ends up beating Bully down with a steel chair over and over again.
It isn't long, however, before Ray is beating down EC3 some more. He even brought out the old, beloved cheese grater, which he smashed against EC3's chest. Ray goes to blast EC3 with his steel chain but EC3 hits him with a low-blow to cut him off. A "this is awesome" chant breaks out moments later.
Ray takes a box cutter and tears apart the ring, the same way he has several times in the past. He goes to powerbomb Ray on the exposed boards of the ring, but Spud hits him in the back with a kendo stick, a shot that Ray doesn't sell. All of this, however, does allow EC3 to recover and attack Ray from behind.
A bunch of shards of glass is set up in the middle of the ring. EC3 goes to the top but when he comes off, Ray catches him coming down with a 3D in the glass. A "holy shit" and a "this is awesome" chant immediately breaks out afterwards.
Ray lays EC3 across a table on the floor. He goes to the top-rope but Dixie runs down to ringside. Ray, "I'm gonna kill you, bitch!" is what he screams to Dixie, who starts running away from him. She ends up getting taken out by EC3 on accident. Ray blasts EC3 afterwards. He looks at EC3 and Dixie both laid out. He picks Dixie up and lays her across multiple tables that are set up on the floor. He goes to the top but EC3 blasts him from behind with a kendo stick. As Ray falls, Spud yanks Dixie off the tables and Ray goes crashing through them on his own. The referee counts Ray out and makes it to ten. EC3 wins.
Winner: Ethan Carter III
Mr. Anderson vs. James Storm
The video package airs, highlighting the history of the Mr. Anderson vs. James Storm feud. After the video package, James Storm is introduced, as he makes his way to the ring. Once in the ring, he grabs a mic and trashes the Dallas Cowboys players that are in attendance. Out next is Mr. Anderson, who cuts a promo at the top of the stage with the lowered-down-mic.
Anderson ends up sprinting to the ring, where Storm is waiting for him. The two exchange a wild series of punches before the bell rings to make this one official. Early on, Storm dominates Anderson with relative ease, focusing on the leg of Anderson.
Storm takes too long during a top-rope spot, which allows Anderson to establish control of the offense. This goes on for a while until the exact opposite happens and Storm takes control. Storm and the Dallas Cowboys get into it at ringside, with a ton of ringside staff getting involved to make it seem serious.
The situation leads to one of the players fully distracting Storm, allowing Anderson to hit the Mic Check for the 1-2-3. Anderson wins.
Winner: Mr. Anderson
Jeremy Borash Interviews Eric Young
Backstage, Jeremy Borash is with Eric Young. Austin Aries walks up and says "may the best man win tonight," before walking off. Young then goes on to talk about Lashley and how he's going to get crazy tonight and retain his belt.
TNA World Heavyweight Championship (Triple-Threat Steel Cage Match) - Eric Young (c) vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Austin Aries
The video package airs showing the highlight of Eric Young shockingly winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and then all of the events that led to tonight's triple-threat steel cage main event at Slammiversary.
After the video package, with the lights dimmed, we see a glimpse of the ring covered in a steel cage, as Mike Tenay and Taz run down how Bobby Lashley and Austin Aries advanced to this match with wins over Samoa Joe and Kenny King, respectively, earlier tonight.
Out first for tonight's main event is Austin Aries. Aries makes his way into the cage. Out next is the other challenger to the title tonight, Bobby Lashley. Finally, the reigning TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Eric Young, makes his way to the steel cage. The bell rings and it's time for our pay-per-view main event of the evening. Triple-threat action for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
All three guys go at it as soon as this one is made official. Lashley appears to be in control of the smaller opposition here in the early goings.
The match is back-and-forth for a while until it builds to a mega-spot with Aries hitting a huricanrana off the top rope onto Lashley. The two crash down to the mat. Young, who is seated on top of the cage, does a giant splash off of the cage onto Lashley. The crowd, which was hot already, is exploding now with "this is awesome" chants.
Lashley goes for the spear on Young out of the blue, but Young moved and Lashley ended up spearing his way through an entire steel cage wall on one side, landing through it and on the floor. Back in the ring, Young goes for a pin on Aries but only gets two.
The Dallas fans are coming alive as Young calls for the piledriver. He isn't able to hit it due to a distraction. Aries hits a full-speed corner dropkick on Young. He goes for the Brainbuster but E.Y. reverses it into a piledriver out of nowhere. 1-2-3. Young wins and retains.
Winner and STILL TNA World Heavyweight Champion: Eric Young
